If you are connected to your company’s exchange server, you can search the GAL or Exchange Global Address list on your iPhone. This is pretty handy if you want to search your company’s exchange contacts when you are out and about.

To search, tap contacts and scroll down to Exchange Global Address List on your iPhone.

Enter the name of the person you wish to search for.

The information displayed in the contact detail on your iPhone are from your Active Directory. The information displayed includes

1. Is the Display Name
2. The Logon Name
3. The Job Title which is under the Organization tab in Active Directory
4. The Company which is also under the Organization tab in Active Directory.
5. The work telephone number
6. The mobile phone number

Is there a setting in exchange to allow the Exchange Global Address List option to show up in the Groups? Or be available to be searched? I don’t see this option (nor have ever seen this option) on my iPhone (ios v 4.2.10). I previously could search names/addresses from the GAL on my phone and now they don’t appear – only my exchange contacts show up.

I assume you have your email configured as Exchange in which case it should show up.

We use GAL features for lookup and have been asked if can send more than one e-mail address to the Apple Device. Currently it only appears that we can send one – EmailAddress. Is there any other EmailAddress fields recognized by the iOS platform that we can use? For example – EmailAddress2 or HomeEmailAddress?
