What is jail breaking?

Jailbreaking is a process that allows third party applications that have not been signed by Apple to run on iPhones that have had their operating systems unlocked thereby allowing root access.

One of the benefits therefore of jail breaking is that you can now access a whole heap of third party applications that you don’t have access to via the app store.

The downside however is that you won’t get Apple support for jail broken iPhones, and it has been these iPhones that have been compromised in the past with worms such as the Rick Astley worm in November 2009.

Jailbreaking comes with it’s own risks and it is good to weigh these up before you go ahead!
